The Midnight Caller is set in 1950s small town America with all the traditions, expectations and morals that the era entails. In a genteel boarding house, four long-term lady residents have to adapt to another female newcomer, a newly divorced male boarder and an alcoholic ex-fiancee - and all of them have their ever-so-polite exteriors, which they struggle to maintain in the face of their internal desires and conflicts.
'A delightfully dislocated play about relationships, trust, loss and the art of survival.'
The play was written by American dramatist Horton Foote, winner of numerous prestigious awards and whose impressive career spans six decades. Foote is most well known for his screenplays for To Kill a Mockingbird and The Trip To Bountiful, plays which, as with The Midnight Caller, celebrate the triumph of the human spirit.
Stagecraft's production was directed by Leigh Cain.
Season: 12-16 April 2005.
