About the Play

A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, with more 90s references than you can shake a D20 at! SHE KILLS MONSTERS – set in 1995 Athens, Ohio - tells the story of high-school teacher Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger and weirder, sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly's Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she decides to try out what kept her sister so occupied and falls into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure. As she delves deeper into her quest, the fantasy world and reality begin to collide and mix as Agnes searches to connect with Tilly and realises how much of her sister she never knew. Featuring numerous geeks, Orcus the Demon Lord of the Underworld, an insecure boyfriend, cheerleader succubi, the great Mage Steve, bugbears, and the five-headed dragon-goddess Tiamat herself!

SHE KILLS MONSTERS received its world premiere Off Off Broadway at The Flea Theater in New York City on November 4, 2011. It won the 2014 American Alliance for Theatre & Education Distinguished Play Award, and was nominated for a 2012 Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Award.
