The Normal Heart

By Larry Kramer
Directed by Stanford Reynolds

Performances:  29 June - 9 July 2022

The Normal Heart tells the story of gay rights advocate, Ned Weeks and his personal and public battles during the growing HIV-AIDs epidemic in 1980s New York. Weeks’ loud, public, and unapologetic approach to advocacy causes unrest among his fellow gay men and closeted lover who fear outing themselves in a hostile society.

With the added unknowns and stigma associated with HIV-AIDs at the time, tensions rise and opinions clash among Weeks’ HIV support group, threatening to undermine their mutual goals.

As the play examines the beginning of an epidemic, many of the ideas will resonate strongly with a modern audience. The fear and uncertainty about the severity of HIV and how it was being spread feels similar to the emergence of COVID-19.
