The Play

Persuasion is Jane Austen’s last novel. It is the story of Anne Elliot, who is full of regret for being persuaded by her family to break off her engagement to the man she loved. Eight years later, and she is largely ignored by her narcissistic father and eldest sister, and constantly called on to care for her hypochondriac younger sister; that is, till her former fiancé reappears on the scene. Can he forgive her for rejecting him? And has she learned to stand up to her family’s persuasion?
