Get involved

Stagecraft exists thanks to the dedicated and passionate thespian community who help out with every aspect of our productions.

Whether it’s on stage, off stage, administration or sponsorship, there is plenty to do that helps to keep Stagecraft running.

Being part of the Stagecraft community doesn’t mean all work and no play either. During the year we put on a variety of activities where everyone can socialise and meet new people.  We also put on a range of workshops to help people learn about aspects of the theatre.

If you or anyone you know would like to get involved, please get in contact and let us know!

Acting

Every year, Stagecraft produces five productions, providing opportunities for actors of all skill levels. Whether you have a comprehensive performance CV or are considering getting into theatre for the first time, we offer a fun and supportive environment to develop your skills and confidence as an actor.

Each production holds open casting calls so anyone interested can sign up to audition.

If you’re interested in auditioning for one of our future productions, head over to our Auditions page to see current casting calls and to sign-up to our auditions mailing list.

Directing

The Director has the overall creative vision for a production and uses it to coax the best out of everyone involved.

At Stagecraft, we accept submissions from directors of all experience levels. We put out a call for submissions mid-year each year. We’ll then invite directors who have been shortlisted to present to our committee in person. Successful submissions will be given a season in the following year’s playbill.

Submissions for 2025 directors are open until July 31, 2024. Click the link below to submit a play, and contact president@stagecraft.co.nz for more information.

Crew

Our productions wouldn’t happen without amazing crew. There are a large number of roles that need to be filled for every single production, so we’re constantly on the lookout for new, passionate crew members to help bring our productions to the stage. It doesn’t matter if you’re an expert or new to the role, we’ll provide the resources and support you in any way we can.

Roles we need for every production include:

  • Production management

  • Lighting and sound

  • Set design

  • Props

  • Costuming

  • Hair & makeup

  • Stage management

  • Publicity

If you are interested in helping with one of these roles, get in touch and let us know how you’re keen to help.

Front of House

We are always in need of willing volunteers to help out with Front of house (FoH).  The FoH teams play an important role in welcoming patrons to the theatre, seeing to their refreshment needs, and helping to keep the public areas of the theatre clean and tidy during a season.  In return, and if you are rostered for at least two shows during a production run, you can watch the show for free.

If you'd like to join the FoH mailing list or would like more details, get in touch.
